University of Exeter researchers released findings this week that it's possible to repel sea turtles from entering fishing nets using LED lights. While fish can'tsee the green lights, sea turtles are alerted to them. In the tests, researchers found there were nearly half the turtles caught in LED lit nets versus regular nets. There was little difference in the number of fish caught between the two groups.

Researchers plan to test different LED colors and in larger fisheries, but they are excited about the results. It's just one more way bright, low-powered LEDs are making a better world.
