Why your LED Lights Strips are Flickering
Flickering or flashing is one of the most common issues encountered with LED strip lights. This may mean that they aren’t getting the power that they need. Other factors include poor connections, incompatible parts, voltage drops, and defective strips.
It’s the LED professional’s nightmare : You finish the install, turn on your strip lights, and encounter the dreaded LED light strip flicker. What should be a smooth and even glow looks like a busted neon sign.
Poor Connection
Check your wiring and make sure that all connectors and wires are in place and are not loose. This causes hindrance in the proper working of the lights as the circuit is intermittently broken while the light is running.
Inappropriate Power Supply
The power supply you are using may not be compatible with your LED strip lights. Excessive load or defective power supply causes voltage fluctuations. You may want to try to swap the power supply that you’re using with another one and see if there’s any difference in how it reacts.
Drop in LED Voltage
There are a handful of ways to minimize voltage drop. First, minimize wire length wherever possible. This might mean running wire through a wall, or a ceiling, instead of going around a room - if possible.
Second, make sure to use an adequately sized wire when making runs between your power source and the light strip.
Third, is to minimize LED strip run length. The simplest way to do this is to split your run into two sections. As an example, say that you require thirty feet of the strip to light up a room. Rather than one long thirty-foot run, we would recommend placing your power supply in the middle and then splitting them.
Damaged Strip
Factors including a damp environment and bad weather are some factors that may damage your wires. Check the LED strip itself for any water ingress or other factors that have caused damage to your installation.
Using high-quality LED strip lights is important when picking out products for your safety and to avoid issues in the future; sometimes, poor quality decreases the longevity of the product which may result in flickering.
